New Brands on the Block
Discover the brands redefining the art of watches and jewellery. From the collaborative creation of Louis Erard to the explosive baguettes of Suzanne Kalan, these makers are a breath of fresh air.
Up and Comers to Keep Your Eye On
In an industry dominated by generations-old family businesses and legacy brands, it's easy to lose sight of the innovative newcomers who shake up the world of watches and jewellery. Here are four examples of younger brands that combine traditional crafts with a fresh set of eyes.
Palmiero
Born in Valenza, the capital of Italian jewellery, Palmiero is the expression of Carlo Palmiero's creativity and artistic vision. Palmiero's work offers a modern, almost philosophical take on traditional codes of jewellery. In Palmiero's pieces, colour is as important as the precious stones themselves, and both are woven into strikingly contemporary forms, inspired by the rays of the sun, the shapes of nature and the flow of water or fabric.
Norqain
Swiss upstart Norqain has come a long way since they were founded in 2018. In a few short years, the brand, backed by plenty of industry veterans, including board advisor Jean-Claude Biver, has carved itself an impressive niche thanks to its focus on contemporary, sporty design paired with meaningful sustainability initiatives. While Norqain offers more traditional models like the Neverest and the Freedom 60, it's the Wild One that stands out with its combination of technical materials, intricate dial designs, modular construction and bold colours. They might only be six years old, but Norqain has a bright future.
Suzanne Kalan
If Suzanne Kalan's work is known for anything, it's a love of baguette diamonds. This passion is captured in the Fireworks collection. Part of the appeal of this award-winning collection is that Kalan's baguettes aren't arrayed in the precise, orderly lines we typically associate with the cut. Instead, they're set in seemingly haphazard stacks, a distinctive scattered pattern that gives the pieces a real air of dynamism, as if the jewellers have captured an explosion of diamonds frozen in time. From radially arrayed hearts to luxurious stacks, Suzanne Kalan has earned the title of 'Queen of Baguettes'.
Louis Erard
While Louis Erard has been around for quite a while, it wasn't until Manuel Emch got involved in 2019 that the brand started grabbing headlines, rapidly becoming one of the hottest and in-demand brands in the business. The secret to Louis Erard's success? Collaboration. By creating accessible watches with industry legends like Konstantin Chaykin, Alain Silberstein, and Vianney Halter, Louis Erard has seemingly perfected the art of the partnership, balancing availability with exclusivity and smart design to spectacular effect.
